Students get careers advice from economics alumni and advisory board

Students from the Department of Economics were given the opportunity to meet with Sheffield economics graduates and advisory board members to hear about their careers and to get helpful careers advice.

Students get careers advice from economics alumni and advisory board

At the Economics Careers Speed Networking event on 28 February, groups of students had around 10 minutes to ask questions to alumni and to two department advisory board members about their career and advice from their sector.

The economics alumni and advisory board members travelled from across Sheffield, from Burton-on-Trent and London to volunteer their time at the event.

The alumni and advisory board members had different roles, were from different sectors and had a range of experience from early career to accomplished managers. The alumni and advisory board members that shared their careers experiences were:

  • Stewart Baker - Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer, Inspired Entertainment Inc
  • Baiju Shah - Data Analyst, IM Markets
  • Darren Winder (advisory board and alumni) - Partner, Lazarus Economics and Strategy
  • Camilla Egginton (advisory board) - Director of Product and Solutions, NEST Corporation
  • Richard Ward - Economic Advisor, Department for Work and Pensions
  • Richard Mosley - Economic Advisor, Department for Work and Pensions
  • Matt Wilk - Economics Advisor, Health and Safety Executive
  • David Takyi - EU Exit and Trade Principal Economist, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

The event not only helped students with careers advice, but it also gave them an introduction to networking and how it can help build connections and relationships in an informal way.
