The PSPRB is made up of a number of individuals who have senior-level experience of handling pay and other matters, both in the private and public sectors. Professor Andy Dickerson is the economist member of the body.

Andy’s work contributes to the overall remit of the PSPRB, which is to make recommendations on pay given the need to recruit, retain and motivate qualified prison service staff. This includes taking into account regional and local variations in labour markets and their effects on the recruitment and retention of staff, as well as the competitiveness of the Prison Service with the private sector, including differences in the terms and conditions of employment.

The PSPRB reports and recommendations are submitted to the Prime Minister, the Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice, and to the Minister of Justice, Northern Ireland.
