Our staff

The School of Law is a large and diverse academic department, employing more than 70 academic and research staff, with support from more than 20 professional services staff. The School includes three broad academic areas: Law; Professional Legal Education; and Criminology. Each of these divisions is led by a senior member of staff within the School as indicated below. Some members of staff teach across more than one division, as detailed on individual staff profiles.

Department of Law

Meet the academics who teach and research in our Law Department, led by Head of School, Professor Robert Burrell. The team draws on its wide range of academic specialisms and real world experience, to deliver our law degrees at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels: the range of Sheffield LLBs and the Sheffield LLM.

Centre for Criminological Research

Led by Professor Joanna Shapland, the CCR leads global research in criminology, and uses Centre members' expertise to deliver Criminology teaching across our UG programmes, as well as the MA in International Criminology.

Centre for Professional Legal Education

Led by Andrew Callaghan, our CPLE consists of a team of qualified solicitors with a wealth of experience in practice, who deliver professional courses for those preparing to pursue a career in law. These include: the Legal Practice Course; the Graduate Diploma in Law; and the MA Law.

Professional Services

Our Professional Services team works with students, academics and colleagues across the University, to provide an excellent student experience and facilitate the smooth running of the School.
