Caroline gained an MSc in Environmental Psychology at the Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg, Germany, in 2015. During her postgraduate studies she worked as a research assistant with a focus on environmental psychology and behaviour change at the Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg, the Institute of Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS) in Potsdam, and a consultancy in Berlin.

Previously, she has completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of Hamburg, Germany, in 2011. While completing her studies she worked as a student assistant in media psychology, media management, and market research at the University of Hamburg, the Hamburg Media School and in the private sector. In her gap year she spent five months in South America volunteering in a reforestation project and traveling. It was followed by a six-month placement at a consultancy with a focus on environmental issues in Berlin. Furthermore, she was a board member of the Psychology Initiative in Environmental Protection (IPU) in Germany, a Co-founder of the British Environmental Psychology Society, and an initiator of the Sustainability office at the Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg.

Currently, Caroline is part of the Critical Research in Marketing and Society Research Cluster at the Management School and the Environment and Behaviour Research Group at the Psychology Department. She is also a member of the British Psychological Society and the British Environmental Psychology Society.

Thesis Title

Sustainable behaviour in the workplace: An investigation of the gaps, links and spillover effects with home behaviour.

Scope of Research

Caroline investigates how environmentally friendly behaviour at work spills over to the home context.
Designing effective behaviour change interventions to environmentally friendly behaviour is an important to promote sustainable lifestyles. The spillover effect describes when adopting one new behaviour (e.g. learned through a behaviour change intervention) leads to further behavioural change.
As people spend a large amount of their both at home and at work,
understanding the potential for spillover between them could be important in promoting sustainable lifestyles.
This PhD project aims to shed light on the potential for spillover from the workplace to the home setting, with a particular focus on the mediating role of environmental self-identity.
