Opportunities to get involved

The Sheffield MBA Ambassadors

As a Sheffield MBA Ambassador you will advocate for the MBA and share your experiences with prospective students through a wide range of channels including virtual events, social media and the website. You will improve your communication and interpersonal skills, gain customer service and marketing related work experience and earn money alongside your studies.

This is a paid role and applications will open in September. In the meantime, if you'd like to find out more about the role you can get in touch with the Management School's student recruitment and marketing team on mba@sheffield.ac.uk.

Academic reps

The University places great value on the opinions of it’s students and there are various opportunities for you to get involved, both to have your say and also to represent the views of other students.

Being a student representative is rewarding work and can help you develop useful skills such as communication skills. It can also give you a greater understanding of how the University works as well as enabling you to play a role in the decision making of your department and/or faculty.

Each programme at the Management School has its own Staff-Student Forum. These meetings provide an opportunity for staff and students to discuss matters – academic or non-academic – relating to any aspect of the programme. The students normally elect the chairman, secretary and other student representatives. Meetings are held during semester time as necessary, and usually, if there is sufficient business, at least once a semester.

Societies

Joining a society is a fantastic way to get to know new people and get settled in in your new city.

Sheffield Students' Union is home to over 300 societies, so you're bound to find at least one you like the sound of.

Some of the societies you might find particularly interesting, insightful or relevant include:

Management Society

The Management Society is an academic society, and their members are mostly students that study in the Management School. They organise meet and greets for new students who are keen to meet coursemates, socials (including non-alcoholic socials), events such as summer and winter balls, a society football and netball team, careers events and volunteering opportunities for members to get involved in.

Investment Society

The Investment Society provides a platform whereby students can share their passion for anything investment related. They aim to do this through several channels which include the following: inviting students to attend talks given by guest speakers, participating as an analyst on our investment fund, coming along to weekly sessions held by their trading division, or contributing to their student magazine, the investment review. They look to provide society members with opportunities which will help them to succeed in the job market, such as CV workshops, as well as networking opportunities with graduate employers. In addition, they hold numerous social events which are an excellent, and more informal, way to meet like-minded students.

Women in Business Society

Women in Business Society aims to encourage and support women aspiring to enter a career in Business, Finance, Commercial Law and more. During the academic year, they strive to deliver all the necessary information and skills needed for the members to increase their overall level of confidence and employability. They organise comprehensive workshops, networking events, guest speaker events, and fun socials for society members. Thus, members gain a comprehensive knowledge of the industries they're considering, build important connections and get first-hand advice from other women who share their experiences with them.
