For the last five years, I was working as an assistant project manager for CCU, the largest beverage and distribution company in Chile. I won a CONICYT scholarship that would allow me to study abroad, and started searching for a masters in my field that had sustainability at its core.

High-quality education and active student life

The University of Sheffield is one of the approved universities from CONICYT. This is already a sign of quality and I believe that the University’s reputation will serve me well in my career. In my opinion, the reputation of your university can give you a significant advantage when starting your career.

I was particularly attracted by the MSc Logistics and Supply Chain Management because of its focus on sustainability and the opportunity to study in one of the most advanced countries in terms of innovation, cultural diversity, and social awareness.

Something else that made Sheffield stand out was its vibrant student life beyond the classroom. The environment here is very friendly and my wife and I felt welcomed right from the start. I feel motivated to participate in every activity and opportunity that comes my way and lets me get involved with University life.

Studying in a supportive atmosphere

Before arriving, I was anxious about the language barrier. I’m so happy that I took a pre-sessional English course before my masters started. I feel more confident when communicating with others inside and outside of the University.

The Management School building is comfortable, cosy and warm. There are modern rooms for studying, chatting, or having a coffee with friends.

The staff have a strong vocation and a universal willingness to help you in any way they can. I feel challenged to do my best but also supported - through the necessary resources and the right type of environment - to achieve this. The staff are so well prepared, available to offer guidance, and bring the latest research into the curriculum.

The Students’ Union is active on important issues too, from racism, LGBT+, immigration or mental health issues. I feel proud that the SU helps to tackle these problems and that there is support in place if you need help.

A smart choice

I feel that Sheffield, as a city, is a smart choice for a lot of students. It has great transport connections to other cities and there are a number of international airports near by. In addition, it is affordable, friendly, and green. I really like exploring the many parks and interesting architecture here.

Endless opportunities

There is a great amount of support available from Futures First to help students with career planning. I take on board all the advice the careers counsellors offer and am considering furthering my studies to PhD level. In the meantime, I’m focused on developing my knowledge to help create more sustainability in the logistics and supply chain industry.
