You can apply to our Pre-sessional English courses and Academic Literacy and University Culture programme through our Alternative Routes and Programmes Application Form.

Alternative Routes and Programmes Application FormThe form has comprehensive instructions for you to follow, and pop-up help is available on each page.

Completing your application

If you have already started an application to a postgraduate course at the University you can login to the application form using the same username and password you created for your earlier postgraduate application.

If you have already applied for an undergraduate course, or have not yet started an application to a course at the University, you will need to enter your email address and create a password to access the application form.

The form is divided into seven sections which you must complete before you can submit your application. If you wish to return at a later stage to complete your application you can save the information in each section and then log back in later using your email address and password.

Information for agents

If you are a University of Sheffield agent applying for an ELTC course on behalf of a student, please see the information here on how to submit an application through the Agent Portal.

Supporting documents

You'll need to include certain documents to support your application, for example a recent English language certificate. You can supply these simply by uploading them to the relevant sections of your application.

If your tuition fees will be paid by a sponsor (e.g. a scholarship, your national government or an employer), please upload a letter from your sponsor confirming this.

The letter should include:

  • A date within the last 6 months
  • Applicant's full name and date of birth
  • Sponsor's name and contact details

If you do not yet have a letter confirming your sponsorship details you can supply this at a later date.

Submitting your application

Your application will only be submitted to us when you click the 'Submit Application' button. If you've forgotten to fill in any sections, you'll be prompted to go back and complete them at this stage. When you've successfully submitted the completed form, we'll confirm this on-screen. We'll also send you an email confirmation.

After submitting your application you will not be able to go back and edit most of the form, but you will still be able to add new qualifications or documents which you have indicated you will provide later.

If you have any problems completing your online application, please contact our ELTC admissions team for support:
