Why did you choose to study at Sheffield?

I attended an open day in 2019 and I instantly knew that this was the university I wanted to go to. I loved the city and the campus, but initially it didn’t offer the course I really wanted to do so I did it in Manchester for a year instead. I spent a year there and realised that the University of Sheffield was where I wanted to be so I took the opportunity to change courses and move to a new city and it was the best decision I ever made

Has your experience so far been what you expected?

Better than I expected. Especially with Covid I thought there would be a lot less opportunities for us outside of study but the university has gone above and beyond to make sure we get as many opportunities as possible

What do you particularly enjoy about your degree programme?

I really enjoy the seminars, all the tutors I’ve had have been so lovely and helpful. It’s really fun talking to your peers about a subject you’re passionate about.

What modules are you studying this year? Are there any modules that you have particularly enjoyed during your degree so far and why?

I really enjoyed the disenchantment module. It’s a period in history that I never got to study in school but it’s super interesting not only looking at the past but being able to compare it to how society is today. The lecturers are very engaging as well as the seminar tutors which makes the module even more enjoyable.

If you're a dual student, what do you enjoy about doing a dual degree?

As a History and Philosophy student I really like that my subjects often cross over and that they really compliment each other. At the same time they are also quite different in how they are taught and the discussions we have so it never gets repetitive

How would you sum up your overall experience of studying at Sheffield?

Sheffield is a great city, very friendly. Especially as a first year student living in Endcliffe, it’s easy to make friends and there’s always something to do on campus.

Do you have any plans for after graduation?

My dream is to do a masters in fashion history and eventually work on costumes for film and tv but we’ll see… :)

What do you like about the University/living in Sheffield?

I like that there’s so much going on, you have a perfect balance of city life while having the peaks on your door step (this is especially comforting when you’ve lived in a small town your whole life).

Would you recommend studying at Sheffield to a friend?

Absolutely :)
