I have particularly enjoyed the Empire module as it gave me a chance to learn about pre-modern history to an extent that I was never able to do at school.

Why did you choose to study at Sheffield?

The course was much better than other universities I had looked at and the city was amazing.

Has your experience so far been what you expected?

Yes! I have really enjoyed my time so far at Sheffield - the course has been amazing as have all the people within the department.

What do you particularly enjoy about your degree programme?

It gives me the chance to constantly challenge myself in my understanding of many ideas/concepts. It also gives me the opportunity to discuss these ideas with many different people.

What modules are you studying this year? Are there any modules that you have particularly enjoyed during your degree so far and why?

I have done Paths from Antiquity to Modernity, Empire and History Workshop for the history side of my degree. I have particularly enjoyed Empire as it gave me a chance to learn about pre-modern history to an extent that I was never able to do at school.

If you’ve undertaken any extra-curricular activities, what do you feel these have added to your time here?

The Oral History project has helped me to no only get to grips with the city more but has allowed me to talk to people who are years above me and get to hear about their experience within history.

If you're a dual student, what do you enjoy about doing a dual degree?

That it fits together so well but also allows me the freedom to study such a variety of things. This year I have learnt about the Neo-Assyrian Empire all the way up to the impact of Margret Thatcher's election.

What do you like about the University/living in Sheffield?

The University has so many facilities and is an amazing place to study. The city is not too overwhelming. There is always something to do and new things to explore without ever feeling you are too far away from what you know. Also, having the peaks so close is amazing!

Would you recommend studying at Sheffield to a friend?
