The University is so friendly, and has a real community feel which is quite comforting when you move to a new city and everything feels very new!

Why did you choose to study at Sheffield?

I loved how welcoming everyone was on the open day, and I could really see myself living here. The course had some great modules, for example the "Disenchantment of early Modern Europe" module that I hadn't seen at other universities. I also loved the city and how close it was to the Peak District, whilst still having the city feel in the centre.

Has your experience so far been what you expected?

Yes and no, I didn't really know what to expect from uni, so I think it has surpassed my expectations! It has encouraged me to push myself out of my comfort zone and try new things which has been exciting. I have also loved my course, and have met some amazing people who have made my experience so much better. I love the independence university has given me, and I have become more confident which is great!

What do you particularly enjoy about your degree programme?

I really enjoy the variety of my degree, and the range of modules that we can choose from. I like that I can make my degree my own, and choose to study what I am interested in- because that makes it more enjoyable!

If you're a dual student, what do you enjoy about doing a dual degree?

I like the variety that it gives me, because I don't have to just study one subject which I thought I would have to at university. I like having the balance between two subjects because it feels more manageable, and I can choose whether I'd like to balance the two evenly, or major in one subject which is really good. I like being bale to maintain both of my interests, and it is really interesting when they link together, as I enjoy contextualising the literature I am analysing within a period of history that I have also studied.

Would you recommend studying at Sheffield to a friend?

I would definitely recommend it to a friend. The city itself is great because it isn't overwhelmingly big, but it still has lots going on which is nice. The University is so friendly, and has a real community feel which is quite comforting when you move to a new city and everything feels very new! The lecturers are very helpful, and they are very knowledgeable about their subjects which means that their lectures are interesting and useful, and there is so much to do outside of lectures with sports and music societies. I have loved my first year and can't wait to come back in September!
