What did you enjoy most about the course?

I loved developing my news writing skills and video editing.

Did you face any challenges during your time here?

It was my first time working to deadlines on projects with little experience. I found that the way to overcome them was to talk to other students, help one another, but also make sure to chat to tutors and lecturers when you're stuck: they want you to succeed, and would always be willing to help you or offer advice and guidance.

Did you complete any work placements?

Yes! I worked at BBC Look North for a little while - I learnt a lot about newsgathering. My time there also taught me how to put TV news packages together.

What was the most important lesson you took away from your time spent as a Sheffield Journalism student?

Three key things: organisation, prioritising and maintaining a to-do list!

How has your time at the University of Sheffield impacted your career?

I wouldn't have my career without it. Although I have mainly worked in PR, rather than journalism, the skills I gained from my degree were (and still are!) vital to my professional development and progression. I am also a member of the alumni mentoring service, so for anyone looking to launch a career in PR and comms - get in touch.
