We know that graduation is an important part of the university experience, and the ongoing global pandemic of Coronavirus (Covid-19) has meant that the University has had no choice but to postpone its July 2020 graduation ceremonies.

So we have created this page to congratulate our Class of 2020 graduating students and have developed a yearbook full of personal messages, experiences and pictures for students to remember their university highlights and achievements with us at the School of Law.

Head of School, Professor Graham Gee, would also like to send a special message to our Class of 2020 students.

Dear Class of 2020,

I want to congratulate you on graduating from the School of Law at the University of Sheffield. That you have done so in such a challenging year, in the middle of global pandemic, is an amazing achievement. Very many congratulations!

Graduation is a time for us to celebrate all that you achieved over the last three or four years: not only in the classroom, but on your years abroad, in the moot court, in our pro bono clinics, in work placements, on the sportsfield, through your participation in so many different university clubs and societies, and in your charitable endeavours in wider society, not just here in Sheffield but literally all around the world. In all of these different ways you have demonstrated not only your considerable talents, resourcefulness and resilience, but a basic compassion for each other and our wider community. It is no wonder that everyone in the School of Law is so proud of you.

The graduation ceremony itself is the most special, uplifting and joyful event in our academic calendar, and so I feel very great sadness that you are not able to take the stage this summer in front of your friends and family to receive the acclaim that you so richly deserve. But you will have the chance to graduate in person at some point in the future, when it is safe to do so. When you return to campus to graduate, we will take even more pleasure than normal in celebrating your achievements in the company of your family, friends and classmates.

You have been studying with us for the last three or four years, but your connection to the School of Law is lifelong. And our eagerness to celebrate your achievements does not end at graduation. We want to celebrate with you throughout your careers. So, stay in touch, and send us a postcard or drop us an email with news of your latest professional accomplishment.

I look forward to seeing you, your family and friends in Sheffield for graduation at some point in the future, and in the meantime I wish you good health and good fortune.

With all best wishes,

Graham Gee
